Subsea Innovation Ltd, part of Tekmar Group plc, has announced a major contract win with Subea7.
Subsea Innovation is a world leader in the design, manufacture and supply of complex engineered equipment and technology used in the offshore energy market.
Subsea Innovation recently developed a next-generation seal for their Pipe in Pipe Waterstops, designed to deal with issues experienced when using High Frequency Welded (HFW) pipes and seam welded pipes which are being introduced within the industry as part of cost-saving measures.
Subsea Innovation are the only supplier in the world to have successfully tested Waterstop seals with a proven record on HFW and seam welded pipes. HFW or seam welded pipes often require localised polishing to improve the sealing ability; whereas Subsea Innovation’s next-generation SIStop® Waterstop Seal eliminates the need for this, sealing on pipes with greater surface defects and impurities.
The next-generation seals were designed and developed from Subsea Innovation’s head office in Darlington.
Following the announcement, the new SIStop® Waterstop Seal will be used on two Norwegian projects including the Skogul project for Aker BP and the Wintershall Nova project.

What are Waterstops and Pipe In Pipe (PIP) systems?
Pipe In Pipe systems are two concentric pipes often consisting an inner pipe or flowline, and an outer pipe or carrier pipe. Centralisers are placed between the carrier pipe and flowline to keep the flowline centered, minimising contact with the environment, therefore reducing the amount of insulation required. The annulus between the two pipes can be filled with air or a passive thermal insulation to reduce heat loss. Waterstop Seals provide a solution for isolating a section of flooded annulus by preventing water passage to the adjacent Pipe-In-Pipe sections during installation and normal operation.
