The Role
Tekmar Energy are pioneers in the Offshore Wind Industry and have a reputation for delivering technical solutions to a wide range of subsea asset protection applications. Working for Tekmar Energy, the Engineering Design Manager role is pivotal to ensure that robust engineering-led technical solutions are deployed and co-ordinated throughout the organisation.
The Engineering Design Manager will effectively manage the Engineering Team to deliver timely support to Sales, Project Execution, strategic product development and general improvement initiatives, aligned to business objectives and target KPIs. This will include planning, resourcing, and management of a multi-discipline engineering team to ensure that capability and capacity is constantly reviewed and developed in line with market demands.
Key Responsibilities
The role will strengthen the Engineering Department and duties will include, but not be limited to the following:-
- Provide leadership to a multi-disciplined Engineering Team including design, analysis and testing. Continuously engage, coach, and develop the team to ensure they have the necessary skills, competences, and tools to fulfil their potential in pursuit of the business goals.
- Governance and performance monitoring of the engineering team’s objectives and KPIs to ensure QHSE, OTD, budget and people and strategic metrics are delivered through regular meetings and reporting.
- Budgetary control for the engineering function, including internal and external spend in support of sales, projects, and product development.
- Leadership of the engineering design process through regular risk reviews. DFMEA, regulatory/third party and customer reviews.
- Take ownership for delivery of the TRL product development roadmap, including budget setting, planning, resourcing, design, development, and testing.
- Continuously seek improvements to our products, services, engineering standards, tools and techniques based on internal KPIs, lessons learned, general feedback, and industry best practice reviews and value engineering initiatives.
- Support supply chain strategy initiatives through supplier engagement in value engineering activities and design for manufacture principles.
- Maintain an auditable engineering suite of documentation, drawings and deliverables aligned to engineering activities.
Knowledge and Experience

- 5 years’ experience in a similar role, leading an engineering team in a subsea design environment.
- Excellent knowledge of 3D design and software packages, (Autodesk, AutoCAD and Vault).
- Design analysis tools such as ANSYS, Abacus, Orcaflex.
- Demonstrable Research and Development experience.
- Polymer design and processing experience.
Skills & Qualifications
- Mechanical Engineering Degree – BEng, MSc or equivalent.
- Member of an Engineering body – IMechE, or similar.
