Graduate Design Engineer

The Role

Working for Tekmar Energy, the Graduate Design Engineer will be required, as part of a team to carry out a wide range of engineering design activities, taking products from concept through to sales and ultimately project delivery. The Graduate Design Engineer will be involved in optimising designs, through fundamental design, mechanical and thermal simulation of components and systems, prototyping and physical testing and on-site and subcontract manufacturing processes.

This role requires an ambitious and motivated individual, someone possessing good interpersonal and communication skills and have a strong interest in all aspects of the business.

Key Responsibilities

The duties of the role will include, but not be limited to the following:

  • To learn, develop and progress within Tekmar under guidance of the Engineering Team, underpinned by the determination and self-drive to learn new skills.
  • Take ownership of product design and delivery functions from carrying out initial feasibility studies, right through to final product testing.
  • Generate drawings and design documentation to support the manufacture and supply of components for the Subsea Industry.
  • Compile technical documents to support the development, sales, project, and manufacturing phases.
  • Design component test methods and rigs and support the Test Team in design verification testing.
  • Work closely with the Production Team to ensure efficient and cost-effective production of the product.
  • Actively contribute to Project and Client Meetings.

  • CAD skills, preferably Autodesk and Inventor.
  • Capability of producing/checking engineering calculations by hand and with common software such as Excel and Mathcad.
  • Conversant with using design FEA analysis tools such as ANSYS, Abacus,
  • Possess a good understanding of engineering principles, such as mechanics and heat transfer to deliver engineering design solutions.
  • Able to identify and work with colleagues to develop innovative proposals for new work. Take ownership of design, manufacturing, testing and take appropriate corrective actions.
  • Knowledge/experience of the industry is an advantage, but not essential.
  • Strong written and verbal communications skills.

  • 1st of 2:1 Mechanical Engineering Degree.

Tekmar Energy are pioneers in the Offshore Wind Industry and have a reputation for delivering technical solutions to a wide range of subsea asset protection applications. Working for Tekmar Energy, the Graduate Analysis Engineer will be required, as part of a team to be involved in the delivery of dynamic analysis and finite-element services for the Offshore Wind and Oil & Gas sectors. The Graduate Analysis Engineer will contribute towards the continuous improvement of analysis techniques and work with software such as; OrcaFlex, and Ansys.

This role requires an ambitious and motivated individual, someone possessing good interpersonal and communication skills and have a strong interest in all aspects of the business.

The role will strengthen the Engineering Department and duties will include, but not be limited to the following:

  • Building analysis models.

  • Compile technical documents to support the development, sales, project, and manufacturing phases.

Senior Analysis Engineer

The Role

Tekmar Energy are pioneers in the Offshore Wind Industry and have a reputation for delivering technical solutions to a wide range of subsea asset protection applications. Working for Tekmar Energy, the Senior Analysis Engineer will be pivotal in the delivery of dynamic analysis and finite-element analysis services for the Offshore Wind and Oil & Gas Sectors.

Working as part of the Engineering Team, the Senior Analysis Engineer will be involved in identifying customer analysis requirements, developing solutions to engineering problems as well as leading and monitoring analysis on live projects and contributing towards the ongoing continuous improvement of analysis techniques. Professional experience and knowledge of OrcaFlex, Ansys or Abaqus will be used to perform and develop analysis techniques as well as being shared and used to mentor and develop junior Engineers.

Key Responsibilities

The role will strengthen the Engineering Department and duties will include, but not be limited to the following:

  • Work as part of the engineering team to identify customer analysis requirements and develop solutions to engineering problems.
  • Lead and monitor analysis on live projects to ensure key deliverables met on time.
  • Contribute towards the ongoing continuous improvement of analysis techniques.
  • Line management, coaching/mentoring, and development of analysis engineers.
  • Writing and reviewing client proposals – recognising client requirements and identifying the most appropriate analysis to meet their needs.
  • Preparing and reviewing analysis input data – liaising with clients and the analysis team to ensure the most appropriate data is available and utilised.
  • Building and developing analysis models and methodologies.
  • Reviewing and checking OrcaFlex analysis models built by engineering team.
  • Running simulations and interpreting results.
  • Writing and reviewing reports.
  • Attendance and presentation at relevant conferences.

Knowledge and Experience

  • 5 years’ experience in the use of Orcaflex
  • Scripting languages (e.g. python)
  • Experience using design FEA analysis tools such as ANSYS, Abacus,
  • Mooring analysis and geotechnical analysis
  • Experience of Subsea engineering within Offshore wind farms
  • Experience of Subsea umbilicals, riser, flowlines (SURF) and or power cables

Skills & Qualifications

  • Mechanical Engineering Degree – BEng, MSc or equivalent.
  • Member of an Engineering body – IMechE, or similar.
